812 Squadron Air Cadets

The Importance of Fundraising

Air Cadets is one of the largest youth organizations in Canada. A portion of funding for Air Cadets is provided by The Department of National Defence, however, much of the program costs are covered by fundraising efforts at the local level.

The Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) under the authority of the Air Cadet League of Canada ("The League"), is responsible to make sure that the program outlined by the squadron Commanding Officer is properly financed. The League is also a non-profit organization that does not receive any government funding. Each squadron in Ontario pays a fee of $65 per cadet per year to the League.

The 812 Sponsoring Committee supports this cost through fundraising initiatives to ensure that all youth have an equal opportunity to participate in the program.

While there is no cost to join Air Cadets, parents and cadets are expected to participate in and contribute to fundraising as required by the 812 SSC.

There are many ways in which parents and volunteers can help support 812.

Join the SSC

The Sponsoring Committee meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at Victory Fellowship Baptist Church. Our main purpose is to look after the finances of the squadron and to approve funding for activities that our cadets participate in. If you’re looking for a way to be involved, this is a great way to start!

All Sponsoring Committee members are volunteers, and every member must have a Vulnerable Sector Police Check and will be thoroughly screened by The League. Please contact the SSC Chair for more information.

Volunteering - Fundraising and Cadet Events

All parents are asked to volunteer a minimum of 6 hours during the year. Volunteer opportunities include things like covering the canteen on Parade nights, preparing meals for training weekends or providing time at other fundraising events.

Cadet Participation

It is imperative that each cadet participates in fundraising efforts to support the squadron. Parents are asked to encourage their cadet to actively promote and sell their Air Cadet League Lottery ticket allotment (1 book each), tagging and any other fundraising as requested.
